Connecting to the SCP Network via VPN

Download and install FortiClient VPN-only
Go to Fortinet's product downloads page - Product Downloads | Fortinet Product Downloads | Support
Under FortiClient, click FortiClient VPN-only
Choose the download that matches your computer's operating system
Complete the download form, then click Download Now
If prompted by your browser, select save as; otherwise, check your downloads folder for the installer
Contact your IT department for this step - Run the installer and follow the prompts to complete the installation
Configure a New Connection
Under Remote Access, click the "3 lines" menu icon by VPN Name, then select Add a new connection
For the New VPN Connection, enter the following information then click Save
The profile will now show as available for connecting in the VPN Name list
VPN Notes Before Connecting
The device cannot be connected to the SCP network (office wireless or wired) when attempting to connect to the VPN
The device needs to be connected to the internet (hotspot, home, or public wifi)
Connecting to the SCP Network via VPN
Open the FortiClient Application
Under Remote Access, you will see SCP Corporate VPN. Click Connect.
On the prompt for username, enter your supplied username (username@southcentralpower.com or username@connectscp.com) followed by your password. Click Sign in.
Verify your identity will next prompt. Select Approve with Duo Mobile.
Your mobile device will receive a push notification from the Duo Mobile app. Press and hold the notification to receive the Approve/Deny option. Tap Approve.
Alternatively, you can open the Duo Mobile app to receive the Approve/Deny option. Tap Approve.
Back on your laptop, VPN Connecting will open in your web browser and present the VPN Login prompt. Click Accept on the prompt to be able to connect.
Forticlient will now show as VPN Connected.
Disconnect from the VPN
Open the FortiClient Application
The VPN Connected screen will be displayed
Click on Disconnect
Version Check
Open the FortiClient Application
Click About
The version will be displayed
If your version is older than FortiClient 7.4 you will need to upgrade to the latest version - see Download and install FortiClient VPN-only
Troubleshooting
Your connection attempt with FortiClient VPN fails and errors before reaching the multifactor prompt.
- Confirm your computer is connected to a reliable internet connection
- Has your phone been replaced/upgraded recently? If so, you will need to re-register your multifactor device.
